40 Years of Entrepreneurial Experience
I have enjoyed managing control positions in a wide array of business enterprises over a 35 year career, focused on start-up, rapid growth, capitalization and restructuring of businesses while building rapport and buy-in with partners, investors, and government entities in the USA, Europe, Asia and South America.
My early career experience included being part of a small core team that saved Southwire Company from bankruptcy in the early 1980's. Three years later, as President, I sold off non-core operations, doubled-down on metal smelting, invested heavily in technology, and positioned operations to take advantage of growing consumer demand in this country and abroad. During my tenure as President the company grew from $450 million in revenue to become America's largest manufacturer of wire and cable, with revenues of $2 billion. More importantly, annual company profits grew from less than $5 million to more than $100 million during this period, and the market value of equity grew by more than $1 billion.
I then served as Chairman and Managing Partner of several private equity funds created to capitalize and partner with a wide range of businesses through control equity investments. Over a sixteen year period the funds invested in privately held companies in many different industries throughout the U.S., including manufacturing and lodging, automotive and marine parts distribution, software, and media services. Typical enterprise valuations ranged from $10 to $140 million.
I am a natural leader who enjoys meeting new people, networking, and mentoring. I enjoy consulting in areas such as venture start-ups, workout & turnaround, capitalization strategy, corporate finance, and organizational structure.
